Calacatta Entry Floor in Tahoe Park
About this project
This was the entry and connected home office floor of a 1958 ranch-style home on a residential block off Folsom Blvd in Tahoe Park. The original floor was vinyl composite tile that had lifted in several spots. After demo, the concrete slab showed a 3/8-inch high point near the center of the room — standard for a slab of this age.
We used self-leveling compound to bring the floor within 1/8 inch over a 10-foot span before setting any tile. The material is 24x24 rectified Calacatta-look porcelain in a polished finish, set with 3/16-inch joints and a polymer-modified white thinset to prevent gray bleed-through under the light tile. The result reads clean and open — a significant change from the original dark vinyl.
