Blue Chevron Shower in East Sacramento
About this project
This shower was built in a bathroom inside a Fabulous Forties home on one of East Sacramento's numbered streets. The homeowner chose a bold blue-and-white chevron pattern for the shower walls paired with a contrasting octagon-and-dot floor tile — a design choice that references the geometric tile traditions popular in the 1940s while using contemporary glazed ceramic.
Chevron tile requires precise layout because the pattern is directional and any drift from center becomes visible over the full wall height. We snapped layout lines from the floor up and checked alignment every three courses. The shower floor uses a small-format octagon tile sheet that was laid with pitch to the linear drain on one side. The combination of two visually distinct tile formats on walls and floor keeps the space energetic without being overwhelming.
What we did
Frame and waterproof shower walls and floor with liquid membrane
Snap center layout lines and set chevron wall tile starting from floor
Set octagon floor tile sheets with pitch toward linear drain
Grout both surfaces in complementary colors, caulk all movement joints
